Nella Chiesa e per la Chiesa
In this theologically rich text – “Nella Chiesa e per la Chiesa” - Fr Peter-Hans Kolvenbach comments on aspects of Pope John Paul II's post-synodal apostolic exhortation, Vita Consecrata (1996). Fr Kolvenbach explores the integral ecclesial nature of the religious vocation. The religious vocation is a vocation within the church, established and confirmed by the church, and for service in and of the church. Together with the lay and ordained states, the commitment of the religious constitutes the third fundamental vocation in the church. The many forms of the religious vocation fundamentally reduce themselves to love and service. Religious life reflects, in the present day, that form of life, which Jesus chose for himself: a complete offering to the Father. Fr Kolvenbach comments on the new forms of religious life which are emerging today, and on the renewal of the traditional forms of religious life.
