The Problematic of the Male Lay Religious Today
Description
In October 1985, at a plenary meeting of CRIS, Fr Peter-Hans Kolvenbach spoke about “The Problematic of the Male Lay Religious Today.” He focusses on two areas. Firstly, in considering “fully clerical institutes,” he notes the place of brothers in relation to priests issues specifically reserved to priests, the question of jurisdiction within these institutes, and the very notion of a “clerical institute.” Secondly, he raised issues that cut across the categories of all male religious. These include the crisis in vocations, the misunderstanding of the non-ordained vocation, the divisive clerical/non-clerical terminology, the ministry of brothers in the church, the integral formation of the non- ordained, and the theological vision of the priesthood common to all the baptized.
